Tips and tax are included in the price when you go out for dinner. But normally you give some tips especially if the service has been good. 5 to 10 % in tips is the normal. It is also normal to tip the taxi driver.


Nightlife

There is lots of nightlife in Berlin. Especially in the area around Kurfürstendamm you will find lots of clubs and bars, but also in Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain.

Sports

Every year in September there is the big Berlin Marathon and Berlin athletics. Berlin is of course the hometown for the football club Hertha Berlin which plays on the Olympic Stadium.


Culture and entertainment

Berlin is Germany’s leading cultural city with a huge selection of theatre plays, opera, cabarets, concerts and movies. Every year in January/February Berlin is the host for the big film festival called “Berlinale” - Berlin International Film Festival. Another big attraction is Berliner Philharmonisches Orchestra.


Restaurants

There are about 10.000 restaurants, diners, knejpen, and cafés in Berlin. One of the most famous diners is the “Imbiss” which sells sausages. You can find them on nearly every corner in Berlin. Knejpen is what the pub is for people in Great Britain. On a knejpen you can get a cheap dinner and experience the real Berlin. But remember the selection of restaurant is huge. You can get food from nearly all over the world.


Capital

The year after the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 Berlin was once again chosen to be the capital for Germany.


Population

There are about 3,5 million inhabitants in Berlin. It is nearly one million less than before the Second World War.
